The Island of Formentera

Oct-10-2008 By Christine

Formentera is a small island within the Spanish Balearic Islands group.  It is close to Ibiza a very popular tourist destination – especially amongst young people who are into the rave and techno music scene.  It is a small island only 19 kilometres long.  It has no airport and can only be accessed by ferry which often travel the three miles from Ibiza across the Mediterranean Sea. This means that relatively few tourists come to this unique island location making it a quiet place compared with some of the other islands in the group.  Formentera hotels are being developed to cater for the increased flow of tourists.  However mant tourists choose to stay in the five star hotels Ibiza and travel over to Formentera on day trips.
