Digital Assets

Mar-17-2011 By Christine

The internet is a wondrous thing to those who remember a time before it existed. Not so long ago, it was only possible to learn about companies through the marketing materials they created themselves, or through media articles and news reports which tended to be few and far between for smaller businesses. Today, anyone with the ability to log on to a computer, laptop, smart phone or any other device with browsing capabilities can find a wealth of information on pretty much any company out there.

Each of these pieces of information about a company has the potential to be either an asset or a detriment to the business. Those that are positive in nature are known as digital assets and are a key part of internet marketing as well as online reputation management for companies of all sizes. Being able to control one’s digital assets is a key element in combating negative reports or complaints online.

The two main digital assets that a company has are its own website, which is usually located on a .com domain and a professional blog . The latter may either be for the company itself or may be the blog of the company’s president, CEO, or other important officer. It is a place for sharing information and establishing the company’s expertise in their field. It should rank for the company name right next to the main website.

There are a variety of other digital assets that can be used to create a widespread profile for a company. They can be placed on their own domains, embedded within the blog or main website, or used on social media sites. Digital assets would include things like company videos , podcasts, white papers, slide shows, and even pictures on sites like Flickr.
