Adjusting to Night Shifts

Mar-3-2010 By Christine

These days most of know at least one person, maybe more, is who is out of work and looking for a job. Decent jobs are pretty scarce right now and, as a result, many people are working jobs and shifts they never before thought they would have to. For some that simple means adjusting to a new environment, but for others it is adjusting to a whole new schedule. working at night may not seem like a big deal but, for those who have done it, they know that it affects every aspect of your life.
One of the biggest areas that is affected is your sleep cycle. Humans are not nocturnal . We are not designed to be awake at night and sleep during the day. For many it is not enough to just cover the windows with a blanket. Too much sunlight is still allowed in and it is not very aesthetically pleasing. For some thick blinds or shades make it dark enough that they can get to sleep and stay asleep. However, if you are light sleeper or are having a particularly hard time adjusting to sleeping during the day, you might be in the market for some blackout curtains. Don’t worry, they are not as dreadful as they sound. They completely block out sunlight, making your room completely dark and allowing you to sleep, and they come in a variety of colors so you won’t loose any of your rooms decor in the process. Night shifts are taxing both physically and mentally; especially if you desire to return to a normal schedule on your days off. However, do not get discouraged. Once you have an established routine and have adjusted to living the night life, it becomes much easier to switch between the two.

Lowering Surgical Costs

May-11-2009 By Christine

One of the ways to lower surgical costs is to go to countries such as Mexico for your procedure. Combining treatment with a longer stay to enjoy the country has become a growing business called Medical Tourism (http://medicaltourismguide.org/). Because you are able to save a considerable amount of money, sometimes up to 60% on a surgery, more and more patients are discovering that this is an extremely viable alternative to staying at home where health care costs are soaring sky high.

With the cost of knee surgery, for example, being so low, patients are able to save money to enjoy on a post-procedure vacation or to go home with extra cash in their pockets. Mexican hospitals and doctors rival those in the United States and Canada, making it infinitely less worrisome to have your procedure done outside the country. Additionally, these doctors are generally fluent in English, so communication is not a problem. With attention to personalized care, you not only are saving money, but are receiving excellent treatment by a staff that treats you like the individual you are.

Today saving money is more important than ever. By utilizing the talents of surgeons who have received their post graduate degrees in the U.S. and Canada and who work in countries where the costs are lower, you are doing yourself a service both health-wise and financially.

Cost Effective Cosmetic Surgery

May-7-2009 By Christine

Medical tourism is a growing industry, with over 500,000 Americans and at least the same amount of Canadians and Europeans looking for affordable surgery outside of their home countries. With the breakthroughs that constantly come to the fore in cosmetic surgery, it is no wonder that people are turning to expert Mexican physicans who practice cutting-edge techniques at less than half the cost of a procedure done in the United States.

Board certified doctors are plentiful in Mexican hospitals and clinics, where patients can book surgeries such as breast augmentation, brow lifts, facial implants, rhinoplasty, liposuction, and the like. For the affordable price, they can then enjoy a vacation where they can recuperate on a beautiful beach or discover small villages in nearby areas.

There are many countries offering affordable surgery, such as Panama, Costa Rica, and Argentina where doctors offer the same high quality treatment that one would find in the United States, Canada, or Europe without having to pay inflated prices. Additionally, booking a surgery outside the country usually means there is less waiting time for the surgery. In countries such as Mexico, professional care is responsible and personal, with doctors taking time to answer all of your questions while informing you about your surgery every step of the way.

Combining a medical procedure such as plastic surgery with a vacation and saving money is becoming a popular option as people see that they are not compromising professionalism when choosing to go outside of their home country. Most board certified plastic surgeons have done their post graduate work in the United States or Canada and exhibit the same level of expertise as their North American counterparts.

Over-the-Counter Drug Abuse

Mar-18-2008 By Christine

With around 3 million people between the ages of 12 and 25 have abused over-the-counter medications, such as cold and cough medicine. This is because is it cheap and readily available. Once a person is addiction, entry into a long term drug rehab program is needed to stop the abuse. Substance abuse rehabilitation teaches the addict how to adjust his or her behavior in order to maintain sobriety. Without drug rehab, the abuser will most likely not abstain from abuse and will only increase the severity of the addiction.

The ingredient in these OTC medications is called Dextromethorphan, or DXM. The effects of DXM include loss of coordination, impaired judgement and mental functions, nausea, dizziness, hot flashed, hallucinations, brain damage, seizures and death. The number of calls to poison control centers for overdoses from DXM has increased every year because people are now taking these pills by the handful.

One other interesting find was that incidences of overdosing and abuse show up in clusters. This is most likely due to word-of-mouth talk about using these drugs and almost every home has them on hand.
